“…You will be enriched in every way…” – 2 Corinthians 9:11 (NIV)
When your family embraces kingdom economics, you shift from scarcity to supernatural supply – not through wishful thinking, but through ordered, faithful stewardship. Through faith. God is the Source; you are His channel (Colossians 1:16; 2 Corinthians 9:11). Practice spending, saving, and sowing – God’s way!
1. Spending (Stewardship over impulse)
Spending is often the easiest part of the financial triangle, yet kingdom spending must reflect priorities, discipline, and purpose. God calls your family to place needs before wants, and generosity before luxury. Here are three practical tools:
- Budget App: Download a budgeting app and commit to observing spending patterns that diagnose your financial challenges and inform your future choices. Awareness is the first step to stewardship.
- Happy Limit: Beyond essential monthly bills, set a personal “happy limit” for discretionary spending. When I first moved to a developed country, I knew the mall would look appealing — so I set a spending limit (adjusted depending on the month). This creates discipline without guilt.
- Glory Q: Before every purchase, ask, “Does this spending glorify God?” This single question has transformed how I steward family finances, and it can do the same for you.
2. Saving (Understanding seasons)
Saving is more than setting aside a fixed percentage or building a 3-6 month cushion. Proverbs 6:6-9 points us to the ant, who not only stores but discerns seasons.
Saving challenge:
- Are you in a season of abundance that you’ve turned into a spending season?
- Is this a season to invest or build multiple streams of income?
- Is this a season for debt discipline — halting new debt and scheduling repayment milestones with accountability?
3. Sowing (Your family’s generosity ministry)
Sowing reflects your family’s commitment to tithes, offerings, and Spirit‑led acts of mercy. Yet many of us, like Jeremiah in Chapter 12, wonder why the wicked prosper. God calls us back to His equation of abundance and protection in Malachi 3.
Tracking giving goals alongside savings goals can be powerful. When we return to God what is His and give faithfully, He responds with protection and overflow (Malachi 3:10-12).
One practical approach is the Principle of Thirds to your income:
- One‑third for spending
- One‑third for saving
- One‑third for giving
Prayer
Father, align our hearts to Your kingdom. Teach us to spend wisely, save faithfully, and sow generously — trusting Your unlimited Source for every good work, in Jesus ’ name.
